Why do we request a link so strongly?

Go to your favourite search engine and do a search for spiritual retreats. You will find up to 1.8 million results. The term spiritual retreats, and some related terms, are searched approximately 11,000 times a month. Have a look at the first couple of pages of results. Now ask yourself... How many of the top results have anything to do with the teachings and obedience of our Lord Jesus Christ? I don't find any. Why is this? It has everything to do with how search engines rank web sites for keyphrases. They apply various rules, one of the criteria is called "link popularity". A main factor in determining "link popularity" is decided by how many times that the search engine finds links to that web site from other web sites.

Many of the web sites that are in the top positions in the search engine results pages are not there because they are the best web sites or have the biggest marketing budget, they are there strictly because of the shear volume of links that they have to their web site from other web sites. This is a shame and we will show you why. Some of the non-Christian entities in top positions for spiritual retreats understand these factors and instruct their supporters to build web sites and to supply keyphrase rich textual links to the main web site. Many of these explicitly use the anchor text spiritual retreats. It is a sad thing, because their web sites move up to the top of the rankings for spiritual retreats and yet have absolutely nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Well, you can help us change that.

Web searchers are looking for Jesus Christ, they just don't know it and the saddest part is that they are not offered Him easily. Shouldn't we be offering these web searchers Christian alternatives, that they can find easily in the search engine results pages when they perform searches for spiritual retreats? Perhaps the web visitor will not be interested in our web site, but he will see that Jesus Christ is here. This is not for us to profit from. We are very limited in how many people we can bring here. This is to advance the Word of the Lord. In obedience we are taking our marketing skills and launching this alternative in an effort to displace many of these non-Christian options. We want people to know that Jesus loves them and there are Christian out in cyberspace who care about them. God's people are being manipulated by having their options limited by clever non-Christian schemes. For us to offer nothing to people, to say for example; it is to difficult to compete in this challenging Internet market, is clearly disobedient to God's will for us. We know we have the skill, we know we have the drive but most of all, we know we have God's blessing. It is not our desire to change a dark Internet world, it is our calling to be a light that shines and guides people to Christ in spite of being in a dark Internet world.
