Day Trips often include :
Golfing - Golfers delight in playing the prestigious Le
Golf du Belvédère, an 18 hole golf course within a forty
minute ride from the retreat center. Le Golf du Belvédère
has golf clubs, carts etc. available for rent.
Nature Trails - Our wilderness paths are exceptionally beautiful
this time of year, exciting to the senses, with glorious combinations
of colours, sounds and smells. We have especially designed
these for Christians but is a beautiful walk for anybody.
Each trail has it's own spiritual theme, with stations at
short intervals from one another, whereas one or two can sit
at peace on benches and meditate on the scriptures posted
at each station. This is a humble way to naturally feel at
one with God in His awesome world.
Abitibi-Témiscamingue
Heritage Trail - Go back in time. Malartic Quebec is located
on the renowned, well maintained hiking trail originally cut
out of the boreal forest by the settlers of the region.
Canoe Expedition - We launch 12 seated Voyageur styled canoes
from our dock. Everybody helps to paddle to the extent that
they can or cannot. The colours of the trees reflecting off
the calm waters, the distant calls of lonely loons and the
pure fresh northern air create the atmosphere for this relaxing
trip. We spend the best part of the day exploring a wonderful
small river that leads into a very active beaver pond. Part
of this trip involves a brief study of beaver lodges and dams.
Ever wonder why beaver build dams? There are several reasons
but the primary reason may surprise you. Wildlife photography
opportunities abound. This is a good chance to sneak up on
moose, black bears and wolves wandering to the water's edges
for a drink. We bring a shore lunch and enjoy a beautiful
time on a naturally created beach. P.F.D.'s are provided for
everyone, although not mandatory to wear, they must be within
reach.
Golden Tour - Nearby the retreat center is La
Cité de l'Or, a restored gold mine, closed since 1985,
where visitors can tour both the surface and the underground.
The Lamaque mine used to be the richest gold mine in Quebec.
An amazing collection of minerals is displayed at the nearby
Musée minéralogique de Malartic. As we curl around the gentle
hills on our autumn trips to this facility, nature provides
us with some exceptionally beautiful scenery. This is a full
pass with the option to go underground, explore the surface
activities in an ancient mine and visit the historic mining
village including the "historial house". We offer this to
our guests as an opportunity to expand their knowledge of
our culture here, how it originated from deeply devoted Christians,
both French and English, with undying wills to settle in this
wild land.
Refuge Pageau - A trip to La
Refuge Pageau will leave you with the feeling and hope
that somebody cares about God's creature. This is a special
a place where injured animals from the wild are given another
chance to live out their lives. Hurt animals such as wolves,
lynxes, great owls, porcupines and racoons are a few out of
the many animals that take refuge here. Michel and Louise
Pageau do tremendous, inspiring work and the real miracle
is that some of these animals get well enough to go home.
Fort Temiscamingue - Fort
Temiscamingue National Historic Site of Canada was a trading
post for nearly two centuries. This historic site teaches
us about the major rivalry of the 17th and 18th centuries,
between the British and the French for control of the Hudson
Bay fur trade.
Auberge Cartier is an ideal location to hold family get-togethers,
scouting field trips, cadet outings and school trips. We pride
ourselves as a family geared vacation destination, and as
such, all of our services are competitively priced.
